Let’s Go Off to La La Land

“This is the dream! It’s conflict and it’s compromise, and it’s very, very exciting!”

La La Land, a recently-new film released December 9 2016, has quickly risen in fame and captured its audience’s hearts. The film follows the love story of a Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone), who are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. As each character’s individual success begins to mount, the characters are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain.

With a beautiful original soundtrack, gorgeous acting, and incredible singing, it is obvious why La La Land won 6 Golden Globes (Best Actor in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical, Best Musical, Best Director of a Motion Picture, Best Original Score, and Best Screenplay of a Motion Picture).

Spoiler Warning Below:

Movie pros: The beautiful original soundtrack. It, along with the dance numbers, gives the movie a “never-seen-before” feel.

Movie cons: The movie’s brief “alternate ending” to Mia and Sebastian’s love story was a bit confusing and had a “what-if” feel. I do believe that this gave the movie a more realistic feel to it, because we will always fantasize the “what-ifs” of our lives. However, it was done in a way that “wrote” over the original ending, and it was jarring to return back to the proper timeline.

If you haven’t done so already, this popular film is definitely worth checking out. It is currently playing in Manhasset’s movie theater and in other theaters nearby.
