The recent decision to back out of the Paris Climate Accords has stirred up a lot of controversy. Many business leaders have also criticized the president’s decision including people on his advisory councils.

Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla, as well as Bob Iger of Walt Disney have both decided to step down from advisory councils due to this decision. They have spoken out against the decision which they believe would be harmful to the preservation of the environment. “Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world.” Said Elon Musk.

Trump had promised to pull out of the agreement during his campaign on the basis that it was unnecessary and would hurt American jobs. He has consistently supported traditional energy sources, such as coal, and has appealed to workers and business owners that work in those sources .

However, after following through with his promise, several significant business figures, including ones who had otherwise supported the president and his economic policies, have very vocally opposed the recent withdrawal. In addition to the advisors stepping down, many company executives including those of Google, Apple, Goldman Sachs, and Exxon Mobile have condemned the decision and pledged their support in continuing working towards cleaner energy and helping the environment.
