Opa! Time For Some Greek Food!
Recently, we went to Greek Islands: a small restaurant in Little Neck. Always crowded, it’s known for its delicious, traditional Greek food. It’s also known for its live Greek music on the weekends at night.
For an appetizer, we recommend trying the homemade spanakopita. Spanakopita is a spinach pie, stuffed with feta cheese and a few spices. Greek Islands’ spanakopita is so great because you could really taste the freshness of the filo, which is the pastry around the pie. Also, if you’re feeling traditional, the saganaki or the octopus is for you. The saganaki is fried kefalograviera cheese drenched in lemon…so if you’re not into sour dishes, this one isn’t for you. The octopus is a traditional meal: served grilled with olive oil. This dish definitely gives you a little taste of Greece.
For a main course, the souvlaki platter is a meat lovers’ dish. Served with pork or chicken and vegetables, the meat is freshly grilled and delicious. However, for the vegetarians out there, the haniotiko is a crowd favorite. It’s eggplant layered with zucchini and vegetables, and, of course, topped with feta cheese. What is feta not good on?
For dessert, the baklava and the glaktobouriko are sweet and will leave you with a great taste of Greece.
So, if you’re a Greek food lover, or have never had Greek food, Greek Islands is the place to go!
