Panera Bread: A Bonus Review

Most people have probably heard of this place: a place where the bowls are edible, where the cookies are half the size of my head, and where you get the check before you get the meal. For years I’ve been going to Panera Bread with such frequency that it has become a fact of life. I’d even say I eat at Panera Bread more often than I see my extended family. With that in mind, it should be easy to do a review.

I’ve classified this review as a bonus review for three reasons- albeit the first two directly contribute to the third. The first reason is that the review tackles a well-known chain restaurant instead of a privately-owned one. Secondly, I’m doing this review without having first written down notes during the meal. As a result (thirdly), this review will be much shorter than most of the reviews I have done.

Whenever I go to Panera Bread, I always order Broccoli Cheddar Soup. I never have anything else. That alone is a testament to the restaurant’s strength, as normally I won’t go anywhere near broccoli or cheese unless I’m forced to. Some may think of me as a bad critic for always getting the same thing, but I feel that a good restaurant is one that will serve you the same thing again and again without boring you, which is something Panera does very well. I usually finish the side of bread first, often by dipping it into the soup.

I also praise the customer service, especially the speed with which the customer gets his or her food. At Panera I’ve never had to wait more than five minutes for my food, whereas at some restaurants the waiting period is in excess of half an hour.

All in all, Panera Bread is a great place for good comfort food to fill and satisfy. It’s not drop dead delicious or even particularly noteworthy, but for a chain restaurant it certainly impresses.
