On Wednesday evening, March 22nd, Manhasset Secondary School put on its beloved spring Pops Concert for all parents and members of the Manhasset community. For the duration of the two-hour concert, the school showcased performances from eight different music ensembles in Manhasset: the Manhasset Concert Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Symphonic Orchestra, Symphonic/Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, and the Kinsmen/Men’s Choir.
The concert began at 7:30 .M. with the Symphonic Orchestra, along with members of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Mrs. Shyr. The orchestra performed a variety of popular film and Disney music, including The Magnificent Seven, Enchanted, and a West Side Story mashup.
It was then the choir’s time to shine, with the Women’s Choir, Symphonic/Concert Choir, and the Kinsmen/Men’s Choir singing their hearts out in their respective and entertaining performances, led by Mr. Berry and Ms. Weiss, as well as musical accompaniment by bassist Zen Lee and guitarist Henry Keogh.
Going back to the instruments, the Concert Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble combined to perform a medley of mashups and other pieces under the direction of Mr. Gregory Sisco, one of the newest members of the Manhasset faculty and music department. The combined ensembles performed hits from Billy Joel, The Phantom of the Opera, and How to Train Your Dragon. The concert ended with all eight groups coming together to perform their epic arrangement of the hit song Don’t Stop Believing by Journey.
Each performance concluded with its respective conductors sending heartwarming regards and congratulations to the Class of 2023 seniors in each group, with these students sharing their own speeches to their teachers. Everyone had a fantastic time, thanks to all of the musical groups of Manhasset.
