The Manhasset Track and Field team recently competed in the Nassau County B Championships, held on February 4 at St. Anthony’s High School. Facing strong competition from schools across the county, both the boys’ and girls’ teams delivered outstanding performances and represented Manhasset with pride. The boys’ team finished in second place, narrowly missing first by just 3 points to Calhoun, showcasing exceptional strength across multiple events, including long-distance and field events. The girls’ team scored 47.5 points, securing third place, reflecting a competitive and well-rounded performance in both mid-distance sprints and field events. Their success was driven by consistent performances, teamwork, and dedication, which helped them secure their place at the top of the county. Both teams’ hard work and perseverance were evident as they competed confidently and supported one another throughout the meet.
Key performances for the boys’ and girls’ teams included:
- Braeden Jackelow, securing All County Champion in the Boys 1000m, with a time of 2:40.82, and placing second in the Boys 1600m, with a time of 4:41.81.
- Nic Katsoulis, securing All County Champion in the Boys 1600m, with a time of 4:41.45, and placing second in the Boys 1000m, with a time of 2:41.92.
- Luke Falco, Braeden Jackelow, Thomas Neylon, and Nic Katsoulis, placing second in the 4x800m, with a time of 8:30.38.
- Max Tobar, placing second in the Boys 3200m, with a time of 10:10.62.
- Cole Miller, placing second in the Boys Triple Jump, with a distance of 41’11.5”.
- Gianna Sforza, Waverly Ling, Katherine Garvin, and Anna Paloubis, placing second in the Girls 4x800m, with a time of 10:29.65.
- Julia Kim, Harper Lambert, Elim Yang, and Madeleine Quinlan, placing third in the Girls 4x400m, with a time of 4:19.91.
- Harper Lambert, placing third in the Girls 600m, with a time of 1:44.03.
- Mia Chen and Julia DePietro, tying third in the Girls Pole Vault, with a height of 8’0”.
Preparation played a key role in the team’s success. Months of intense training, early-morning practices, and a strong team mentality helped Manhasset rise to the challenge at county championships. Coaches emphasized discipline and consistency, which allowed athletes to perform at their best when it mattered most.
A special thanks to Coach Steve Steiner, Head Coach of the Boys’ T&F, Coach Jamie Julia, Head Coach of the Girls’ T&F, and the assistant coaches, Dr. Kevin Kearney, Gabe DaSilva, and Clayton Santiago, for their hard work and dedication to the team; they always showed up prepared and ready to run. Overall, the county championships marked yet another major achievement for the Manhasset Track and Field program. With strong finishes from both teams, against 16 other schools, along with impressive individual performances, the meet highlighted each program’s dedication and momentum for the remainder of the season.
