I know that you have a few questions about this article, so I’m not even going to waste any time and answer them right now. Yes, Tom Brady has managed to make his way into the spotlight again. No, he didn’t try to deflate another football. And yes, the press isn’t happy with him again. This time, Brady has caught himself in the middle of a hot topic: the election of Donald Trump.

Recently, the press has decided to focus on his relationship with Donald Trump. Tom Brady really just doesn’t get it.

“Why does everybody make such a big deal?” Brady said Monday on radio station WEEI in Boston. “I don’t understand it.”

In order to meet press demands, Brady recently decided to give a little bit of detail regarding his relationship to Trump. They’ve been friends for a very long time, but, in the words of Brady, “I have a lot of friends,” which serves to diminish the importance of their relationship. An outside source commented that Trump respects Brady for his hunger to win, and understand that Tom is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game. With that said, however, it’s not actually football that keeps them together. It’s golf!

Trump is known to be an incredible golfer, and it’s not too hard to see why. He owns 17 different golf courses all around the country so, essentially, he can play on a premier golf course without any wait any time he wishes. Believe it or not, Trump is (supposedly) a better golfer than Brady, which has many people in complete disbelief.

The political conversation between the two celebrities, however, is surprisingly sparse. Brady has been notably neutral throughout the duration of the campaign, only coming out at the very end of Trump’s campaign with his coach Bill Belichick to reveal his support for Trump. What has been making the situation especially tricky, however, is that the White House administration has been trying to highlight the friendship between Trump and Brady.

Trump released a statement to his supporters last week that stated that Brady called him to congratulate him on his election to the White House. When asked about the issue by reporters, he gave a very vague, neutral answer.

“I have called him, yes, in the past. Sometimes he calls me. Sometimes I call,” Brady said. “He’s been very supportive of me for a long time. It’s just a friendship. I have a lot of friends. I call a lot of people.”

Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s presidential advisor, also wanted to bolster the image of the Trump-Brady friendship. In an interview on Tuesday, Kellyanne applauded Brady for dodging the questions of the malicious media.

“President Trump is just so grateful that friends like Tom Brady are loyal and can ignore the shrapnel, the verbal shrapnel,” Conway said during an appearance on “Fox and Friends.” “I assume same with Bob Kraft, the owner of the team, who is a good friend of the president’s, who came to the inauguration and is just a fabulous man and leader in this country.”

To many readers, it may be a little confusing why exactly this relationship is becoming important now. There are several problems that could arise from making this relationship public.

  • People believe that he is tacitly condoning the president, whether or not he means to.
  • Some people believe that his friendship with Trump means that he embodies some of the faults of Trump.
  • The relationship can cause a huge hit in New England’s fan base. Many people that support the team are Democratic (overall, the New England region is overwhelmingly Democratic), and they will not tolerate the relationship between the two of them.

While Brady is trying to duck and cover from the attention in order to diminish the problem, chances are no scrambling in the pocket will help him make a miracle play here. As Brady enters the short preparation season for another Super Bowl, it looks like he won’t be able to only focus on the prize.
