Stay Safe during the Holidays

As the holidays are finally upon us, it is important to take precautions to protect your homes before you leave on a vacation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) statistics show a spike in home burglaries during the holiday season. If you follow these suggestions your home faces a less chance of being robbed.

-Never advertise your departure on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

-If your home has an alarm system: turn it on. Many homes in Manhasset have alarm systems but do not turn on the alarms or lock their doors. These are simple safeguards that  should be utilized daily. If your home does not have one–invest in a good alarm system or buy one of the alarm company signs off eBay to leave in front of your house.

-Set your lights on a timer: this will stimulate occupancy.

-Have a trusted friend or a neighbor pick up your mail or leave trash in your garbage cans. This will also make it appear someone is home.

-Lock your windows and doors. This will seem as a no-brainer but it is important to lock your doors and windows.

Happy Easter or Happy Passover and be safe!
