Manhasset Crew Team Participates in Overpeck Regional Youth Regatta
On Saturday, April 8th, 2017, the Manhasset Crew Team participated in its first regatta of the spring season, the Overpeck Regional Youth Regatta, in New Jersey. The Manhasset Crew Team had been training incredibly hard for the past month in order to prepare for this regatta and all squads, Varsity and Novice, were met with some degree of success.
Manhasset competed against approximately twenty-seven other clubs and had to battle high winds, cold temperatures, and strong currents in their respective categories. Manhasset’s Freshmen Girls 8+ took first place while the Manhasset Freshmen Boys 8+ had a strong second place finish. Within the Varsity Squads, the Manhasset Women’s JV 8+ finished in first, the Manhasset Men’s Varsity 4+ also came in first place, and the Manhasset Men’s Lightweight 4+ matched that and came out on top with first place.
Unfortunately, the unfavorable conditions caused a hectic situation at the regatta, prompting officials to cancel many of the races which resulted in some athletes being unable to race. However, following a long week of training over spring break, the Manhasset Crew team is prepared for its next regatta, the Row for Autism on April 23rd at North Hempstead Beach Park.
