2015 MTV Movie Awards
The 24th annual MTV Movie Awards took place on April 12th and were hosted by Amy Schumer. Highlights of the evening consisted of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ winning movie of the Year and Shailene Woodley being awarded with not only Best Female Performance but also MTV’s Trailblazer award, a very special honor given to one recipient each year. Kevin Hart and Robert Downey Jr also received special honors.
Amy Schumer’s opening monologue was hysterical with her constant cracks at Kevin Hart. Her stand up abilities saved her and allowed her to give a brilliant performance. The music, however, was less than satisfactory. Kevin Hart and Amy Schumer’s constant jokes throughout the evening certainly made the show more enjoyable. Another great moment was Miles Teller’s introduction for Shailene Woodley’s Trailblazer Award. He said that rather than preparing a speech, he would rather speak from the heart, and gave a beautiful and genuine tribute to Shailene.
Fall Out Boy, Charli XCX, Fetty Wap, Tinashe, and Ty Dolla $ign all performed but none of their performances were really wow worthy. The talent was quite lacking this year and their performances turned into more of a fashion show of gaudy outfits. Another disappointing moment was when Robert Downy Jr’s Lifetime Achievement Award acceptance turned from an acceptance speech to an Avenger’s sneak peak. After years of being iron man, he certainly deserved his moment and it was disappointing to see it be cut short. Another irritating moment was MTV’s CONSTANT promoting of their new TV series based on “Scream.” Trailers, sneak peaks, and appearances by cast members were non stop throughout the night. Another slightly embarrassing moment would be J Lo making it quite obvious that her speech was simply her reading something off a teleprompter. Come on J Lo, we know you’re talented, but at least try to pretend to be authentic.
