This year the Oscars took place on March 10, 2024, with Vanessa Hudgens, hosting for the third year in a row, broadcasting on ABC The Oscars Red Carpet Show. Her co-host was Julianne Hough, a dancer on Dancing With the Stars. But, Jimmy Kimmel was th main event, marking this the fourth time that he took on the gig.
Prior to the event, there were protestors on the streets condemning the Israel-Hamas war. As a result, some of the stars were running late and the show had to begin five minutes late, which is a rare occurance for the Oscars, which almost always starts on time.
Oppenheimer had the most nominations (13). Next was Poor Things, which had 11 nominations. Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated in 10 categories. Barbie earned eight nominations. Some of the nominated actors included Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr., and Jodie Foster. In the end, Oppenheimer took home a whopping seven trophies, including Best Picture and Director. Emma Stone won the Oscar for the Best Actress for Poor Things, and Robert Downey Jr. won Best Supporting Actor for his work in Oppenheimer, leaving Barbie empty handed.
The highlight of the night was Ryan Gosling’s unforgettable performance of “I’m Just Ken,” from the Barbie movie. The whole audience was on their feet, singing and dancing along. Gosling’s outfit was also one to remember: he wore a crystal-covered hot pink Gucci suit with a custom black Stetson hat, hot pink gloves, and dark Dita sunglasses. In addition to Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken,” Jon Batiste, Becky G, Billie Eilish, and Scott George entertained the crowd.
Not only is it fun to watch the Oscars to see who wins the prestigious awards, but also to see the elaborate outfits that the actresses and actors wear for the red carpet. Stars like Zendaya, Emma Stone, and Margot Robbie stole the show with their stunning looks.
