All Three Spider-Men Confirmed? Breakdown of the Second Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer!

The second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer has been released, and there is a lot to talk about this trailer that is jam-packed with information! This movie will continue the story of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man who has previously starred in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Warning! Spoilers for all Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland Spider-Man movies!

First off, the trailer seems to center around the villains that will be present in the movie. The trailer begins with Peter Parker, or Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, talking to Zendaya’s MJ, Peter’s girlfriend. They reference the fact that his identity is now known by the public, as it was revealed in the end-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Peter is shown entering the home of Doctor Strange and later they seem to be fighting over a box which is held by Strange, yet Parker tries to take it from him. This is odd considering that they are Avengers teammates and allies. MJ and Ned, Spider-Man’s best friend played by Jacob Batalon, are also shown with Peter and Doctor Strange throughout the trailer. Doctor Strange seems to cast a very powerful spell that goes haywire and seems to break open the multiverse.

The first villain shown is none other than Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, who had been previously seen in Spider-Man 2, which starred Tobey Maguire as the Spider-Man of a different universe! This confirms that the multiverse will be playing a large role in the movie, which had been confirmed by the second trailer and the fact that now Doctor Octopus says “You’re not Peter Parker” confirming that Doctor Octopus believed that he was fighting Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, the one that he was used to. But it seems as though they either stopped fighting or Peter won the fight as he was then brought to talk to Peter, MJ, and Ned. Yet, at the end of Spider-Man 2, Doctor Octopus dies sacrificing himself as his humanity takes over, which means that this Doctor Octopus was either taken from a time before he met his end, or was from another universe where that final fight ended differently.

Onto the next villain! A pumpkin bomb is rolled out, with an iconic cackle in the last trailer, and that happens again this time! This confirms another major Spider-Man villain, the Green Goblin. While his face is not shown and it could be any iteration of the Green Goblin appearing, possibly one of the Harry Osborn Green Goblins from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or Spider-Man 3, yet it is most probable to believe that it is Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin from Spider-Man 3 who had fought against Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, just like Doctor Octopus. Green Goblin is one of the most well-known Spider-Man villains and has been a fan favorite for years.

Before the rest of the villains are introduced, Doctor Strange mentions how all the villains had been killed by their Spider-Man, which has held up until the final two entries in the list of villains.

The next villain was confirmed a while ago, even before the first trailer was released, and he is Jamie Foxx’s Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but with a real makeover since his last appearance where he was fighting Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man. His electricity was blue last time but has now become a bright golden yellow. This was the first trailer where there were good shots of him, and it showed how his new costume fit the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a practical and believable superhero suit yet also paying homage to his comic book counterpart.

Finally, Sandman from Spider-Man 3 is back, apparently once again at odds with Spider-Man after all had been forgiven at the end of Spider-Man 3. Also in these shots is the Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man. What’s weird about the appearance of Sandman and the Lizard is that these are two characters that made it out of the movies alive, unlike the others.

To end the trailer they finished off with a shot of Zendaya’s MJ falling to her doom, with Peter seemingly unable to catch her, but he is close. This shot was based on the story from the comics where Gwen Stacy, another love interest of Spider-Man’s, falls to her death in this way where he can not save her. That was then shown in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 where Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy falls to her death with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man not able to save her.

While the trailer cuts off there, there are many rumors circulating about the trailer, starting with people speculating that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man is going to be introduced in this movie by catching MJ and redeeming himself from not being able to catch Gwen.

While neither Garfield nor Maguire has been confirmed, and they have denied that they show up in the movie, it seems very likely that they do. One shot that has fans convinced is of Holland’s Spider-Man goes against Electro, Sandman, and Lizard, yet he only goes in the middle to attack Sandman. Now, this would make more sense if then the other two spider-men would swing in and take on Electro and Lizard. Also, in the international version of the trailer, the Lizard is shown in the corner of that shot getting punched by something that isn’t there, seemingly confirming that at least one other person was edited out of the shot so it only showed Tom Holland’s Spider-Man!

Additionally, Spider-Man debuts a new magic-enhanced all-black version of his super suit, and the Statue of Liberty seems to be getting a large version of Captain America’s shield added onto it.

Needless to say, fans can not wait for another trailer or just to see the movie! Will Tom Hardy play Venom and complete the Sinister Six? Or maybe Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio will come back from the dead! And will Charlie Cox play Daredevil? There are still so many questions that haven’t been answered! The highly anticipated movie will be dropping exclusively in theaters on December 15th, 2021. It will be starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jacob Batalon as Peter, MJ, Doctor Strange, and Ned respectively.
