One of the best artists this year is Halsey, an alternative singer from New Jersey who released her newest album, Badlands, on August 28^th of this year. In my opinion, Badlands is one of, if not the, best album of 2015. Shown in her previous album, Room 93, Halsey is capable of writing songs with beautiful melodies that talk about heavy topics. In her newest album, she reflects on substance abuse, her childhood, mental illness, and many other tough topics that influenced her as an artist. While the album does include her very successful singles “Hurricane”, “Ghost”, and “New Americana”, the standout song for me on the record was Colors, which talks about a troubled past relationship. I also really love her cover of Johnny Cash’s “I Walk the Line,” as it brings a darker perspective on the classic country song.
