Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour: A Wonderland of Music and Memories
Forty-four songs, three hours, twenty costume changes, ten albums, and multiple eras all made up the opening weekend of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Glendale, AZ. After fans fought in The Great War online for hours waiting for tickets, which resulted in a lawsuit with Ticketmaster, Swift finally kicked off the tour and did not disappoint.
The cost for tickets was astronomical, with second-sales up to $10,000, but if you are going to spend that much money on a ticket, it is for this concert. Swifties were most definitely not Ready For It, with her tour exceeding all of their Wildest Dreams. While Swift Enchanted the audience with her Bejeweled outfits and Style, Swifties were stuck in a Haze of awe. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this tour will most definitely make history in the music industry, solidifying Swift’s position as Miss Americana.
Opening acts included Paramore, Gayle, and Phoebe Bridgers, although it is hard to get the same type of buzz when performing with Swift–despite that there were no complaints about the opening performances, no one was overly impressed with those artists either.
Conversely, when Swift performed people were on their hands and knees, with Tears Ricocheting every which way from overly emotional fans. Swift has not toured since 2018 but has released four albums between now and then — hence the “eras” — and the hype that surrounded this tour was tremendous.
Swift began with a mashup of songs from different albums, keeping the crowd wondering what she would begin with and ending up on “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince”.
Her first outfit of the night was a custom Versace bodysuit that almost blinded the crowd when paired with equally sparkly Louis Vitton knee-high boots. The most impressive thing about this concert might be how she performed for almost three hours in heels, though it is rumored that Swift had her legs insured for $40 million.
Each of the different outfits that she wore represented her different eras. The “Lover” bodysuit gleamed with pink and white, while the “Evermore” dress was a long, flowy purple dress perfectly embodying the ambiance of her songs. Not to mention her iconic t-shirt that said “Who’s Taylor Swift Anyway? Ew.” stamped on the front in big, black letters. At one point she came out wearing a huge, pink, floor-length ball gown to sing “Enchanted”, and for “Midnights” she was in a blue bejeweled bodysuit .
With Swift having such a huge fan base and
so many amazing songs, there was bound to be some controversy about which songs she should and shouldn’t perform. Some very popular fan songs that Swifties were disappointed not to see were “Getaway Car”, “Haunted”, and “Our Song” just to name a few. The fact is there are only so many songs that can fit in a concert, and Swift was already pushing her limits with forty-four. In addition, she only sang one song from the albums Speak Now and her debut album, Taylor Swift.
However, Swift did keep the audience on its toes by announcing that she had one surprise song that would be different for every concert. Some of the songs have been “Mirror Ball”, “Tim McGraw”, “This Is Me Trying”, “State of Grace”, “Our Song”, “Snow On the Beach”, and “Cowboy Like Me Much”.
The hype for this tour is astronomical, and Swifties continue to prove what they are willing to do just to listen to her live. Chairs and seats have been set up out outside the stadium for those who could not afford tickets, and many fans have volunteered for either concession stands or traffic control at the stadiums that give them free entry.
So what do you need to know if you are going to one of her upcoming tour dates?
1) It gets really loud and you might want to consider bring headphones in order to save your ears.
2) It is a LONG concert–almost four hours between the openers and Taylor Swift herself.
3) If you want to get merch, you must get there as early as possible. The lines are enormous and many veto even trying to get merchandise.
4) Bring friendship bracelets to trade! Many Swifities have started a trend of having beaded, Taylor-themed bracelets to trade with one another at concerts.
Overall, Taylor continues to surprise the audience by continuously changing the setlist as well as adding surprise songs, proving she truly is a Mastermind. Swift pulled her fans into a musical Wonderland and will continue to do so as the tour makes its way around the United States.
