Tommy Hilfiger’s New Line for Children With Disabilities

Clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger is the first in the fashion industry to create an adaptive clothing line made exclusively for children with disabilities. Hilfiger partnered with Runway of Dreams- a nonprofit organization devoted to adapting mainstream clothing lines for the differently-abled community.

Mindy Scheier founded Runway of Dreams when she saw that her son’s classmates began to wear jeans to school. Scheier’s son has a rare form of muscular dystrophy and wears leg braces to walk safely. Scheier altered the legs of a common pair of jeans to accommodate the braces, and created a pair to fit her son’s needs so that he would be able to wear jeans like the other kids in school.

Tommy Hilfiger in collaboration with Runway of Dreams has created a 22-piece clothing line that models the company’s regular spring collection to accommodate children with disabilities. The collection includes magnets, velcro, and other modifications to allow for easy on and off wearability. Additionally, the company states that all of the items are priced the same as the regular spring collection.

The adaptive line is changing the game of fashion, and truly embodying the campaign’s slogan, “Because Every Kid Deserves A Great Pair Of Jeans.”
