Will Grayson, Will Grayson
A collaboration between two incredibly talented authors, Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a novel about two teenage boys with the same name and more in common than they might think.
The chapters written by John Green are in the point of view of the first Will Grayson. He is an awkward high school student with a crush on a girl named Jane and a flamboyant best friend named Tiny Cooper.
The other “will” is written without capitalization and with questionable punctuation. David Levithan is the author of this other will grayson as a clinically depressed, lonely boy at a different high school with an Internet boyfriend that gets him through the day. However, this mysterious love interest might not be who he says he is.
While the novel explores interesting facets of adolescents, I found Levithan’s character mroe intriguing, In my opinion, David Levithan’s will grayson reaches emotional depths that Green’s character does not. I also think that John Green played into too many stereotypes based on the characters’s traits. However, the stories of the two Will Graysons intertwine very well and do complement each other in a well balanced way, and the relationships throughout the novel are very authentic.
Ultimately, this story is about coincidences, fate, and how we all might not be as different as we seem to be.
