You’ll Be Screaming for Scream 6

The newest movie of the Scream franchise, Scream VI, was recently released and starred Mellissa Barrera, Jasmin Brown, Mason Goding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courtney Cox. The movie is the sixth installment of the Scream film series and is suspected to be the last, with very high expectations leading up to the release.

Scream 6 picks up soon after the events of the previous Scream and the “core four” — Tara Carpenter, Sam Carpenter, Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Chad Meeks-Martin — have now relocated to New York. Although they left California to live a peaceful life, as expected, their lives were shattered by the emergence of a new Ghostface killer. Throughout the movie, Ghostface follows the basic formulas of the other franchises and goes on murderous rampages.

This new Scream is my personal favorite compared to the previous ones because of the complex storyline that trails from the previous movie, seemingly weaving the two plots together. The way that the actors work together in the movie gets the viewer enthralled in the movie and connected to each character. I became super invested in Sam Carpenter, who had a much bigger role in the movie compared to Scream 5. She truly delivered the plot twists and did so with a profound level of intensity that keeps you on your toes.

Although overall I enjoyed the movie and the emotion attached to each of the characters, there were some cons along with the pros. One positive was the unpredictability of the movie, which gave a thrilling plot and kept the audience on edge. Each time Ghostface would make a surprise attack it was so unexpected, and the characters’ reactions to the attacks seemed very authentic. The blood and gore in the film were so realistic, making the murders feel authentic, along with the eerie set, which gave me chills.

On the flip side, the ending fell short compared to the rest of the film. The overall ending felt really rushed and it didn’t make total sense. This could have been because they were trying to twist the whole movie plot together, but it seemed hard to follow, especially if you hadn’t watched the previous films. I felt the ending was disappointing due to the fact that the rest of the movie was fabulous and the audience expected to be surprised.

Despite this, I truly enjoyed this movie and believe it lived up to the Scream franchise name. If you enjoy twists and turns that leave you on the edge of your seat, this movie is for you. The work of the producers and characters paid off and was shown in the depth and intensity of the film. Overall, I would recommend watching this movie, even if you don’t enjoy horror in particular, the film’s plot is so captivating anyone can enjoy it.
