Inception: 10 Years Later

It is hard to believe that 2010 was ten years ago. In that year, when everything was pretty normal, movie theaters were still and new movies were coming out all the time. One of these blockbusters that came out that year was Inception directed by the one and only, Christopher Nolan.

To give some contextto the film, Inception was Christopher Nolan’s new movie that just about everyone was greatly anticipating . Fans of Nolan were  waiting for what Nolan would create next due to the reputation he has built for himself after releasing , The Dark Knight. Movie fans everywhere questioned whether he could follow up with another cult classic to prove that The Dark Knight wasn’t just a lucky hit.  Christopher Nolan delivered with this when Inception came out.

To this day, Christopher Nolan is known for his complex movies that almost everyone enjoys, and Inception is no different. On the surface, the movie is about a group of professional “dreamers” tasked to perform a rarity, inception. In the movie, inception is explained as going deep inside someone’s mind with dreams within dreams to plant an idea, but here’s the catch: you can’t let the person know that the idea isn’t native. The person must think that the idea came from himself. At the heart of the movie, it’s much more than that. It’s a movie about a man willing to do whatever it takes to see his children again. And by performing inception, he regains that hope.

But how does this movie hold in today’s day and age? The answer is that it’s already a  classic. To this day, people including myself still give it stellar ratings. It never feels outdated and even knowing the ending of the movie, the movie never gets old or repetitive. On IMDb, the movie has an average user rating of 8.8 which is 13th on the top user rated movies on the website. It’s fair to say that I’m not the only one who thinks highly of this movie!

Because of this movie, studios are now more open to more ambitious movies. With new ambitious movies being made whether decent or poor, there is more of the chance of hidden gems popping up. It is safe to say that not only is the movie industry rapidly changing, it’s changing for the better- Inception being one of its biggest contributors.
