Economics and Finance Club is a large, fast-growing club at Manhasset, bringing together over 40 active members who share an interest in understanding how markets, money, and global events shape the economy. Each meeting, held every other Monday morning in room 258, offers something different, giving students a closer look into the financial world.
At some meetings, members learn about current events, diving into what’s happening in the markets, how politics influences financial trends, and why those shifts are significant. Other times, the club hosts guest speakers. Professionals, often relatives of members, share their career paths, describe their day-to-day work lives, and explain the challenges and upsides of going into their fields. These professionals vary from consultants to former club members who’re currently studying economics in college, giving Manhasset students a firsthand look into future career paths.
Beyond their regular meetings, the club also participates in competitions, ranging from stock market games to the National Personal Finance Competition in spring. This allows students to apply their knowledge in economics and finance into real world simulations, giving them confidence and experience without the financial risk.
As the club grows, its goals include an increase in engagement for current event discussions, bringing back in-person speakers after years of virtual ones, and hopefully organizing a field trip to an economic institution.
The club welcomes all students, whether they’re already investing on their own, or just curious about how the financial world functions. “The club is very welcoming and is low-commitment, but the rewards are high,” said Mrs. Abrams. “We come together to discuss important topics, compete in events, and challenge ourselves in ways that help students grow. Even for someone who’s nervous, the club is meant to support self-improvement and encourage trying something new.”
