Having taught at Manhasset for 18 years, Mrs. Tadlock has made a huge positive impact on the science department. Driven by her love for science and interaction with society, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and enjoyed playing collegiate lacrosse and majoring in geology.
“Growing up I observed that many people dislike science because ‘it is so hard,’” said Mrs. Tadlock. “Science related things are so fun and so interesting, so I wanted to share my passion for science with others, and show them how NOT scary it can be.” Motivated by a quote by the former men’s basketball coach at her college — “reach for your dreams, don’t be pushed by your fears” — Mrs. Tadlock started her career at Manhasset in September of 2008. “Initially I did have some anxiety standing in a room with 20+ students staring at me, kind of like stage fright,” Mrs. Tadlock recalled. “Then it was nervousness for things like standing in front of a group of adults at open house!”
Now, Mrs. Tadlock has stayed at Manhasset for the sense of community and family, longer than when she was a part of her home district growing up. Currently, she teaches Earth Science Honors, to both 7th and 9th grade classes, and EScAPES. When asked her favorite, she said that “having a favorite class is like having a favorite child; you may have one, but you never admit it!” Outside of her teaching career, Mrs. Tadlock has many hobbies including being outside and visiting national parks, playing sports and traveling with her family.
Manhasset is so grateful to have Mrs. Tadlock as a part of their science department. With her support and positivity, several students in Manhasset have grown to love science, even as they advance into higher education. Manhasset couldn’t be more grateful for Mrs. Tadlock, and without her, many students today wouldn’t see science the way we should.
