The Red Cross Club, founded this past December, has already begun making its mark on our school community. Meeting every Thursday morning in Room 069, the club welcomes all students in grades 9–12. It is an especially great opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a future in healthcare or community service.
At each meeting, members collaborate to plan volunteer initiatives and organize upcoming events. With service as its foundation, the Red Cross Club is working toward hosting fundraising events to support its biggest goal: organizing the school’s first blood drive once sufficient funds are raised.
To kick off their efforts, the club will be partnering with Chipotle Mexican Grill for a special fundraiser on March 18 from 4:00–8:00 PM. Students who make a purchase during that time will need to let the cashier know they are supporting the Red Cross Club fundraiser, and a portion of the proceeds will go directly to the club. In addition, in late March, members will also be selling warm beverages and breakfast items before school. Through these fundraisers, the club hopes to raise the necessary funds to bring their first blood drive to life.
The anticipated blood drive is planned for the spring and will be open not only to students during their free and passing periods, but also to parents after school. As the date approaches, keep an eye on the bulletin boards for more details on how you can participate and make a difference.
Club president Belen Vazquez is hoping to grow both membership and impact. Looking ahead, she plans to introduce first aid demonstrations and create opportunities for students — both within and outside the club — to become CPR certified. “We are a very small organization and need more warm bodies,” shared Belen. “In order to host all of these events, we need more people!”
With ambitious plans and passionate members, the Red Cross Club is just getting started. If you are interested in joining or learning more, email Mr. Lieberman at [email protected].
